As soon as the legislative council assembled for the business of the day, the Leader of Opposition Gulam Gaus drew attention of the state government about the prospect of drought dogging several districts due to shortfall of rain and asked it to take measures to alleviate the plight of the farmers.
The state government should take the drought situation very seriously and make arrangements for alternative source of water for irrigation to enable the farmers to cultivate various crops, he said.
Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, who was present in the legislative council, said that the state government had taken note of the drought situation and he had held review meeting with the ministers and the officials in this regard.
He said that the state government will definitely like to make a statement in the state legislative council on the drought situation in Bihar.
The Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh said that the state government had done a preliminary survey and identified 23 districts as drought-affected and an official decision on the matter will be taken soon.
The Deputy Chairman Salim Parvez said that the state government will make a statement in the legislative council on the drought situation on August 8.
