"The coal block allocation scam is extremely serious as the quantum is very large, larger then even 2G spectrum scam. In the 2G spectrum, the Prime Minister as the head of the government was morally and vicariously liable, in this case for the five out of eight years, he himself was the coal minister, so he is directly liable," Arun Jaitley said.
"We are going to take up the issue of unprecedented corruption in the central government during this and the earlier tenure of the UPA in a big way," Jaitley further said on a question regarding the Opposition's strategy on coalgate in Parliament.
Jaitley is here for two days to form a strategy for the BJP in the upcoming state Assembly elections.
CAG, in its report, has said that state exchequer lost Rs 1.85 lakh crore as coal blocks were not allocated by way of auction.
Jaitley also criticised the central government on its policy towards illegal Bangladeshi infiltrations.
"We have been telling the Congress government from decades that due to the illegal Bangladeshi infiltration the balance of population is getting disturbed in the north east. But the Congress had not listened to us," Jaitley said.

"The way the people from northeast were forced to flee by spreading fear is bad and condemnable. We appeal that the peace should be restored in northeast and people should soon return to their place of study and work," Jaitley said.
On India asking Pakistan to crack down on elements using social media networking sites to whip up communal sentiments, Jaitley said, "The Centre has made a very important disclosure, we have no reason to disbelieve it and I am certain that as a responsible institution, it has examined it. We are one with the government in this that the trouble is being deliberately instigated in our country at the behest of our western neighbours".
