Deputy Election Commissioner Umesh Sinha today directed the election authorities here to intensify surveillance by installing CCTVs at vantage points in Nellithope Assembly constituency, where a bypoll will be held on November 19.
Sinha,accompanied by Dilip Sharma,Director General (Election Expenditure) of the Election Commission of India, was on a visit here and held a one-on-one meeting with representatives of all political parties and also registered leaders' views.
He sought the cooperation of all the partiesfora free and fair poll.

A release from Chief Electoral Officer of Puducherry V Candavelou said the DEC, while appreciating the efforts of election authorities here, said surveillance should be intensified by installing CCTVs at vantage points to monitor and discourage any form of mischiefand inducement to voters.
Such CCTVs should also be installed outside all polling stations on polling day, he said.
Sinha also directed election authorities to deploy additional sector officers to strengthen the polling machinery in addition to intensification of night and early morning patrolling and also for random and surprise checks.
He directed the police to erect barricades and seal the entire constituency for strict surveillance to ward off trouble makers and outsiders and also to intensify vehicle checks.
Sinha held discussions with General Observer and Expenditure Observers appointed by EC, the release said.
He also reviewed the poll preparedness with the Chief Electoral Officer, District Election Officer, Returning officer for Nellithope constituency, police officials of Puducherry and Kottakuppam range in neighbouringTamil Nadu, the release said.
