Through these methods, the farming of flowers and vegetables, including cucumber, capsicum, tomato, radish and carrots is being carried out in the state throughout the year, says Deepak Sura, a farmer from Bugana village in Hisar district, who has set up a Poly House Farm.
"In this farm house, every year three crops of fruits and flowers are reaped. Production is 15 to 30 times more than what is produced through traditional methods," says Sura, who is also a Sarpanch.
A farmer can produce vegetables worth Rs 12 lakh to Rs 15 lakh in a year using these methods, he said.
A poly farm set up on one acre costs about Rs 36 lakh, out of which 65 per cent is granted as subsidy by Horticulture Department of Central and State Governments and a farmer has to bear an expenditure of about Rs 12 lakh.
Sura said that for four poly houses set up in one acre of land, two farm workers are more than enough. They wear different kind of uniform so as to prevent the spread of virus in vegetables.
