A 21-year-old teacher training student, declared brain dead after a road mishap, has given a new lease of live to seven persons, with her family donating her organs.

Doctors at the private hospital in Coimbatore, where the accident victim was under treatment, harvested eyes, liver, lung, heart and kidneys and transplanted them in other persons today after her mother agreed to donate the organs, police said.

Navaneetha of Odanilai, studying in the Teacher Training Institute in nearby Arachalure, was riding a two-wheeler with her friend in the pillion when a bus dashed against their vehicle.

Both women suffered serious injuries and Navaneetha was admitted to the hospital where doctors pronounced her brain dead late last night.

The other woman is undergoing treatment in a private hospital here, police said.
