Delhi Assembly speaker MS Dhir today inaugurated a one-day orientation programme for MLAs jointly organized by Delhi Legislative Assembly Secretariat and Bureau of Legislative Studies in Delhi Vidhan Sabha.
"Such orientation programme should be organized time to time for the MLAs to equip them with information and knowledge about the functioning of the legislative assembly.
"They will familiarize themselves with the procedures like raising of questions, raising of issues relating to the problems of their constituencies during the zero hour and also how to become an effective MLA," said Dhir.

Dhir said that the training will give the legislators full knowledge on how to raise issues in the limited time and to refrain from making a hullabaloo.
He expressed hope that the program will be beneficial and useful for the legislators.
Dhir said that one and a half crore populace of Delhi has elected 70 legislators and these legislators should be well equipped for taking up of their causes with full knowledge of methods, rules and procedures.
The orientation program was divided into three sessions wherein the participating members delivered addresses on parliamentary privileges, role of members and opportunities available to them and provisions of NCT of Delhi Act relating to Delhi Legislative Assembly.
MLA Mohan Singh Bisht said that for elected members, the orientation program will certainly prove to be informative and full of knowledge and will equip them with the knowledge of rules and procedures.
Giving the backdrop of the program, he further said that in the new set up of the present Delhi Legislative Assembly in 1993, the need was felt to organize such orientation program for legislators. The first edition of this programme was inaugurated by former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee in the same Committee Room at Old Secretariat.
