A BJP MP today claimed that the origin of the word 'whip' as described in the Rajya Sabha information booklet is "demeaning" and it should be removed.
Raising the issue during the Orientation Programme for newly elected and nominated members of the Upper House, Amar Sable said, "The booklet states that the word 'whip' has come from 'whippers-in', which means an assistant to a hunter, who takes care of hounds and keep them together during hunting.
"It gives an impression that a whip is a hunter's assistant and the MPs are hounds," he said.
