Jamie Lee Curtis says the original story will be "retold" in the new "Halloween" film.

The 59-year-old actor, who is reprising her role of Laurie Strode in the new movie to be directed by David Gordon Green, said she is excited to star in the film.

She added if she had her way she would have titled it 'Halloween Retold'.

Danny McBride has written the script for the movie in the franchise that was started in part by John Carpenter and Moustapha Akkad in 1978.

"As soon as I read what David Green and Danny McBride had come up with... and the way that they connected the dots of the story, it made so much sense to me that it felt totally appropriate for me to return to Haddonfield, Ill, for another 40th-anniversary retelling.

"There was the idea of, 'What do you call it?' If I had had my druthers, I probably would've called it Halloween Retold. Because it's being retold. It's the original story in many, many, many ways. Just retold 40 years later with my granddaughter," Lee-Curtis told Yahoo!

The actor's character will return from the dead to have a final battle with Michael Myers (Nick Castle), the masked figure who has haunted her since she narrowly escaped his killing spree on Halloween night four decades ago.

The original "Halloween" was directed by Carpenter from his own script about Myers as he stalks and kills teenage babysitters on Halloween night.

Carpenter is scoring the music of the film.
