The Orissa High Court today imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 on Congress MLA Jogesh Kumar Singh for not producing his witness in the court for examination in an election petition pending against him.

Justice B K Nayak imposed the fine on the Sundargarh MLA observing that despite repeated notices, he had failed to comply with the court directive to produce his witnesses for cross-examination.

He had also been fined by the high court in May 2016 for similar lapse.

Singh's election to the Assembly in the May 2014 elections was challenged in the high court by BJD candidate Kusum Tete in an election petition.

The BJD leader lost to Singh by a margin of 2584 votes.

Similarly, another voter of the constituency Ajay Patel too has challenged the election of Singh in the high court.
