The Orissa High Court today refused to grant bail to arrested Trinamool Congress MP Tapas Pal, who had approached it in February, seeking the relief on health grounds.
The high court, however, allowed the jail authorities to provide healthcare facilities to him at any private hospital in Bhubaneswar of his choice, provided the cost of the treatment is borne by the petitioner.
Pal was arrested by the CBI for his alleged involvement in the Rose Valley Group chit fund scam. He was arrested in Kolkata last December.
Later, Pal was produced before a designated CBI court in Bhubaneswar on December 31. Since the lower court rejected his bail, the MP is now lodged behind the bars of a Bhubaneswar jail for over four months now.
