The searches were conducted by teams of officials at the offices of the private bus operators in Vijayawada, Visakhapatnam and Tirupati, in addition to Hyderabad.

The personnel checked whether the private bus operators complied with the rules, like the Motor Vehicles Act, or not and whether there any violations of rules.

During the searches, it was found that the licences of some of the bus operators expired among some other violations of law, officials said.

With state-run buses and trains not being able to meet the demand of travelling public, the passengers take to the private buses.

The private buses transport thousands of passengers daily among various cities like Hyderabad to Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada, Tirupati and a number of other destinations.

29 people were killed and 17 others injured when the private luxury bus fell off a bridge near Sholapur while on its way to Shirdi in Maharashtra on Saturday last.

Deputy Transport Commissioner A Mohan Rao told PTI in Vijaywada that they were inspecting the records over booking of tickets, places of bookings, cash transactions, mode of payment and also online bookings.

He also said that they were collecting information on the buses being operated by private operators on various routes, list of their drivers and the records of the drivers.
