Union Minister M Venkaiah Naidu today strongly defended BJP leaders, who appeared before a special court in Lucknow in the Babri mosque demolition case, saying they are innocent and will come out unscathed.

The special CBI court granted bail to BJP stalwarts L K Advani, Murli Manohar Joshi and Uma Bharti after they appeared before it in connection with the Babri Masjid demolition case. It also framed charges against them for alleged conspiracy to raze the mosque.

"Our leaders are innocent. They will come out unscathed," Naidu, a former BJP president, told reporters, adding that he would not comment beyond it as the matter is in the court.

Naidu also noted that the NDA government did not move to withdraw the case against the top saffron leaders.
