Outgoing Indian envoy hopes for successful Nepal polls

Outgoing Indian Ambassador to Nepal Jayant Prasad today expressed hope that the forthcoming Constituent Assembly elections will ultimately help establish peace and stability in the Himalayan nation.

Prasad had a farewell meeting with chairman of Interim election government of Nepal Khil Raj Regmi at the Prime Minister's Office here today before leaving for New Delhi on completion of his tenure.

Regmi congratulated Prasad on successful completion of his tenure in Nepal and praised India's assistance for various socio-economic development projects being undertaken in the country during the period, according to a press release from the Prime Minister's Office.

Chairman Regmi said that the government is committed to successfully conducting the Constituent Assembly elections on November 19 and expressed gratitude to the government of India for extending support and cooperation in Nepal's endeavours.
 

Prasad said that he was fully confident about successful conduct of the polls, which will ultimately help establish peace and stability in Nepal, the release said.

He expressed confidence that the people-to-people relations existing between Nepal and India since historical times will further expand and strengthen in the future.

Prasad will be replaced by Ranjit Rae, according to Indian Embassy sources.

Rae had previously served as India's Ambassador to Vietnam.

Prasad will serve in the Ministry of External Affairs in New Delhi.
