Over 1,180 kg cannabis seized; 7 arrested

In a major haul for the second day, around 1,184 kgs of ganja, worth about Rs one crore, was today seized and seven persons arrested from V Madugula area in the district, officials said.

A Special Task Force team of Prohibition and Excise Department from Anakapalle town in the district took the action, a day after it sezied 1,640 kg cannabis from here.

The STF team led by Inspector KVP Naidu intercepted four different vehicles-- a lorry transporting 1,080 kg ganja, a car with 70 kgs green drug inside and two bikes carrying 34 kgs of contraband near V Madugula.
 

"The ganja was being transported in different vehicles, but the contraband belonged to one person, identified as Dhanraj, who was later arrested along with six others," an officer said.

Other accused were identified as Harinath, Ravi Kumar Reddy, Bhaskar Rao, Manohar, Rajendra Prasad and Satish.

According to the STF team, the contraband was procured from remote areas in Vizag agency and was being transported to Bengaluru.

All the arrested accused belong to G Madugula area in Vizag agency.

A case has been registered under various sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

Further investigation into the case is on, officials said.
