Over 1.21 lakh held so far in Bihar for flouting prohibition

More than 1.21 lakh people have been arrested and sent to jail in Bihar for flouting the ban on sale and consumption of alcohol which came into force two years ago, the state Legislative Council was informed today.

In reply to a question by BJP MLC Dilip Kumar Jaiswal, the state government said over two million litres of illicit liquor have been seized in about 6.5 lakh raids conducted between April 1, 2016 and March 6, 2018.

The Nitish Kumar government had announced a complete ban on sale and consumption of alcohol in the state on April 5, 2016.

The amount of illicit foreign liquor seized during the period was approximately 16.4 lakh litres while the quantity of illegal country liquor stood at 8.23 lakh litres.
