Over 1.4 million divorce petitions were settled by courts across China in 2017, the Supreme People's Court said.
According to a report by the court, which was made public yesterday, in 65.8 per cent cases, couple decided not to go ahead for a divorce decree and carry on with their marriage.
In 91.1 per cent of divorce cases, only one of the couple wanted divorce.
Over 77.5 per cent of the cases were filed after the husband and wife were on bad terms.
The report also highlighted that in 14.9 per cent of the cases, one spouse petitioned for divorce due to domestic violence, and in over 91 per cent of such cases, it was the male partner who instigated violence towards their female partner, the state-run Xinhua news agency reported today.
According to the 2016 and 2017 figures, differences among couple over marital issues occur between the second and seventh years of the marriage.
