Citizens in Nashik have "donated" over 1.50 lakh Ganesh idols to various organisations here, civic officials said today.
A total of 1,69,957 Ganesh idols were donated at various places. These idols were collected by Nashik Municipal Corporation, various social organisations and educational institutes on September 5 - Anant Chaturdashi- the day when Ganesh idols are immersed, they said.
This shows that residents decided to donate idols instead of immersing them into the river, the officials maintained.
Mayor Ranjana Bhansi said people gave good response to the call made by the civic body to donate idols.
