Over 1,500 shops closed in three districts

Over 1,500 medical shops and wholesalers downed their shutters in Coimbatore, Tirupur and Nilgiris districts protesting against online sales of medicines.

Responding to the call given by National body, nearly 600 shops and stockists in the city closed their units.

Shopkeepers also staged a demonstration near South Taluk Office and raised slogans in support of their demand, police said.

In Nilgiris district, some 200 shops were closed.

Similarly, nearly 700 shops downed their shutters in nearby Tirupur district, where some shop owners staged demonstration near Kumaran statue, they said.

However, medical shops attached to the hospitals and nursing homes functioned as usual, police added.
