Over 10,000 to participate in marathon for cancer cause

A 85-year old man and 78-year old woman will be among the over 10,000 people expected to participate in the October 4 3td edition of Coimbatore Marathon 2015, a run for the cause of cancer patients.

While the 85-year old veteran will run for 10KM run, the woman will participate in the 5 KM run/walk, Ramesh Ponnusamy, the Coordinator of the Marathon told reporters here today.

The marathon has attracted 10,782 entries this year, compared top 10,561 last year and 8,173 in 2013, the first edition, he said adding that there was also increase in the number of woman participants from 19 per cent to 25 per cent this year, he said.
 

With a prize money amounting to Rs.2.65 lakh for the winners in separate categories for men and women, about 400 persons from Defence have also confirmed their participation, Ramesh said.

The marathon recognised by Tamil Nadu Athletic Association and Coimbatore District Athletic Association, comprise three events a 21.1 KM Half Marathon, a 10 KM run and 5 KM run/walk, he said.
