A team headed by Amritsar Deputy Commissioner Rajat Aggarwal found that fake arms licenses in bulk were issued from 1993 onwards by the Arms Section branch of the Deputy Commissioner Office, sources said.
Admitting that connivance of official staff at this stage of the probe can not be rule out, Aggarwal said name of officials involved will be revealed after the entire investigation is completed.
Furthermore, over 6000 licenses transferred to Police Commissionerate System having All India roaming permit will also be checked, as irregularities in this process also cannot be ruled out, he said.
The inquiry was started after an Amritsar-based arms dealer was arrested from Patiala district recently with a number of weapons having fake licenses.
