Over 100 Indian companies will showcase the achievements of the pharmaceutical sector at the 'Brand India Pharma' show in Tokyo from Wednesday.

The show between July 2-4 will provide a platform to connect with the Japanese market and showcase manufacturing and research capabilities of India's pharma industry.

The campaign is the government's initiative aimed at highlighting the value proposition that the Indian pharma sector presents to the global market.

The Indian delegation to the trade exhibition will be led by Commerce Secretary Rajeev Kher, while the industry delegation will be headed by Habil Khorakiwala, Chairman of Wockhardt Ltd, industry body Ficci said.

"Given the heavy pressure on the health requirements, especially its ageing population, Japan, which is a USD 119 billion market, of which generics constitute 11 per cent, decided to enlarge its generics portfolio. Japan represents an opportunity for the Indian pharmaceutical industry," it said.

"Under India's Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) with Japan, which is a conscious agreement to mutually increase cooperation in the pharma sector, Japan has extended national treatment to Indian companies," Ficci added.
