City corporation officials today demolished about 100 shops, constructed on encroached land and creating traffic congestion at Ganapati area on the State Highway, police said.
The Corporation had sent many notices over a period of time to these shop owners to remove the structures constructed on encroached land meant for road.
However, they did not heed the notice and corporation commissioner Vijay Karthkeyan ordered demolition of all the shops, which created traffic congestion on the over populated road, leading to Sathyamangalam and Mysore,they said.
Even as earth movers razed the structures to the ground, over 100 police personnel were deployed to meet any eventuality following the demolition.
