Over 120 wave riders to descend for surfing event

Over 120 surfers representing around 10 nationalities are expected to be seen in action at the 6th Covelong Point Surfing Championship, which will be held in the presence of South African cricket great Jonty Rhodes.

The annual extravaganza will be hosted at Covelong Point Surf School, Kovalam, Chennai from the August 17-19. Kovalam, considered to be India's 'First Surfing Village' is home to some of the country's top surfers. Chennai based TT Group are the principle promoters for the event.

The Covelong Point Surfing Championship is recognised by the Surfing Federation of India and will see Rhodes and Indian tennis star Somdev Devvarman cheering the surfers.

 

The premier surfing competition will see top men's and women's surfers from across the country and abroad vie for the top spots under seven categories.

The surfing categories for the championship are as follows - Novice (U12); Groms (U16); Juniors (17-22 Years); Seniors (23-30 Years); Masters (31 Years and above); Women (all ages); Open Category (Foreign Nationals).
