The districts include Ambala, Faridabad, Gurgaon, Jhajjar, Karnal, Kurukshetra, Mewat, Palwal, Panchkula, Panipat, Rohtak, Sonipat and Yamunanagar.

Polio drops were administered at specially set up booths, on the first day of the three day campaign, a health department spokesman said.

He said the campaign would continue for another two days, that is June 18 and 19, and teams would go from home to home to administer polio drops to children who might have left uncovered on the first day.

10,553 booths were setup in the state and these were manned by about 42,000 heath officials, volunteers, Anganwari workers and Accredited Social Health Activists.

About 2,100 officers and officials supervised the activity apart from independent monitors of PGIMS, Rohtak and WHO.

A target has been set to cover about 27 lakh children during this campaign in the state.

During this round, special attention will be paid to high risk areas like slums, isolated hutments, brick kilns, floating or migrating population and construction sites so that no child is left uncovered in these areas.

Also, 500 mobile teams will be working during the activity to cover all children in underserved and poorly approachable areas.
