A total of 16,843 officers and personnel left paramilitary CRPF in the last four years, the government told Parliament today.
"The total number of CRPF officers and personnel who proceeded on voluntary retirement or resigned from service during the last four years are only 16,843, which is about 1.41 per cent of the existing total force strength per year.
"It may also be seen that the number of officers or personnel of CRPF, who have taken voluntary retirement or resigned from service, declined during the year 2013 as compared to 2012," Minister of State for Home R P N Singh said in a written reply.
The Minister said the main reasons for taking VRS or resigning by the personnel are related to their "personal and domestic reasons including children and family issues, health and illness of self or family, social and family obligations and other commitments among others.
"Some personnel sought voluntary retirement to enjoy a static life by availing pensionary benefits after completing 20 years of regular service," he said.
The number of officers who resgined from paramilitary forces like CRPF, BSF, ITBP and BSF last year stands at 89, the minister said.
The maximum officers who left these forces in 2013 are from CRPF (54) followed by BSF (23), ITBP (7) and CISF (5).
The Minister also said it was a "conscious decision" of the government not to grant staus of Organised Group A Service to CRPF officers as there were "command and control issues" in the force.
