Over 174 Nepalese women rescued from trafficking: NGO

Over 174 Nepalese women, including 54 from India, have been reportedly rescued from a trafficking network over the past year by an NGO in Nepal.

From January to December, non-governmental organisation Maiti Nepal has claimed to have rescued 54 girls from different cities of India, including Delhi, Maharashtra, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Orissa, and Manipur.

From Delhi, 33 girls were reportedly rescued by the organisation over the past one year, the Maiti Nepal said in a statement.

Seven girls were rescued from Sri Lanka, three from Kuwait, two from Saudi Arabia and one from Bangladesh.

Similarly, 109 girls were intercepted from Nepal-India border and various other places while they were being trafficked to India, the statement said.
 

From Nagdhunga, the main entry point linking Kathmandu with other districts, 52 girls were rescued.

They are residing in the rehabilitation centre run by Mati Nepal.
