Over 2,300 Muzaffarnagar riots victims to vote from new places

Over 2,300 displaced riots victims of the Muzaffarnagar communal violence would be exercising their franchise in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls, from new places in the district, officials said here today.

They (victims) would be exercising their franchise from new places in the district. More than 2,331 riot victims who were displaced from thier native villages have enrolled, Additional District Magistrate and Assistant District Election Officer Indermani Tripathi told reporters.

The option would be open up till March 9 to enroll in the voter list from new places for them. They can use 'form 6' and 'form 8' for enrolling as per the Election Commission's guidelines, he said.
 

More than 40,000 people were displaced and over 60 were killed in the communal violence last September.

Polls in Muazaffarnagar and Shamli Lok Sabha constituencies have been fixed on April 10. About 15 lakh voters would exercise their franchise in the district and 888 polling centres have been established for the purpose.
