Over 200-kg cannabis seized at Agartala Airport

Over 200 kg of cannabis was seized at the Agartala Airport from a consignment of pineapples which was being sent to Dubai, police said today.

The cannabis were seized from the pineapple consignment to Dubai at the airport here, Assistant Inspector General (AIG), Smriti Ranjan Das said.

Das said 22 large boxes of pineapples were ready to be loaded as air cargo of an aircraft yesterday. Security check of the cargo revealed hidden cannabis inside the load of pineapples.

"The Airports Authority of India (AAI) and the airline authorities immediately informed the police and Enforcement Branch. Subsequently, 22 packets of cannabis were recovered from 22 boxes of pineapple," the senior police officer said.

 

He said the entire seized cannabis weighed 226 kg.

Police arrested a man from the airport after the cannabis was seized from the pineapple consignment.
