Over 2000 candidates file papers for panchayat polls in Sikkim

As many as 2336 candidates have filed nomination papers for the Sikkim panchayat polls to be held on November three next.

While 738 candidates have filed nominations in West Sikkim, 676 in South Sikkim, 322 in North Sikkim and 600 in East Sikkim districts, an official release said.

Yestersay was the last date for filing papers.

There are 113 Zilla panchayats, 183 gram panchayats and 1040 gram panchayat wards.

The scrutiny of nominations will take place today and last date for withdrawal of candidature is on October 13 next.

In Sikkim, panchayat polls are held on political lines and there is a provision for 50 per cent reservation for women.
