Uttarakhand Chief Minister Harish Rawat today said more than 250 women inspectors are being recruited in the state's police force as a step towards empowering them.

"Only education will not bring about women's empowerment. We will have to give them enough representation in jobs and livelihoods to achieve that goal. 250-300 women inspectors are being recruited into the state's police force as a step towards empowering them," the Chief Minister said at a programme organised by the women and child welfare department here.

Describing women of Uttarakhand as very brave and hardworking, he asked principal secretary women and child welfare Radha Raturi to submit an action plan to him on how to increase the participation of women in other government departments.

Rawat also presented Lt Priya Semwal with Tilu Rauteli award consisting of a cash reward and a citation for her act of valour.

Lt Semwal who took up a career in the armed forces after her martyred husband who was an army man is a picture of courage who should inspire all of us.
