Police seized over 3,000 kg of ganja worth Rs 2.40 crore and arrested two persons in Odisha's Koraput district.

The seizure was made after intercepting a truck near Machhra area yesterday by a team of the special task force (STF) of the district police.

The arrested duo have been identified as Toufik Khan (30) of Madhya Pradesh and Lalit Mahajan (28), a resident of West Delhi.

With a facade of transporting broom sticks, the ganja which was packed in polythene bags, was smuggled in the truck, Koraput SP Kanwar Vishal Singh.

"There were six persons in the truck but four of them managed to flee from the spot after spotting police team. We have launched a manhunt for the absconders," he said.

Police said a well-knit inter-state ganja racket is operating in the area. The contraband is brought from interior parts of Koraput and Malkangiri districts and transported to states like New Delhi, Madhy Pradesh, Rajasthan, West Bengal, Bihar and Andhra Pradesh.

Meanwhile, police have launched a special drive in the district and arrested as many as 50 people, and seized around 9,000 kg of ganja in the past six months.
