Delhi Police heaved a sigh of relief as the Lok Sabha elections in seven constituencies of the national capital passed without any major glitch.
As many as 3,000 police personnel along with homeguard and paramilitary forces kept a tight vigil to ensure a peaceful election.
Senior police officials were also on the ground to supervise the security apparatus and give necessary instructions.
Although some minor incidents were reported while hundreds of litres of illegal liquor was also recovered from many areas in the last 24 hours.
Some voters protested in Burari area of north Delhi complaining that they had to wait for longtime in queues at polling booth number 49, 50 and 51. They demanded a re-poll in those booths saying that they had to wait for hours and many of them left without voting.
Things however, were soon sorted out as police and election commission officials intervened.
In another incident in Nand Nagri area in north-east Delhi a car with 100 crates of liquor was found parked mysteriously near a polling booth in the morning.
According to police, officials checked the car as they found its driver's movement suspicious following which an effort was made to nab him but he managed to flee. However, when police searched the car, crates of liquor was found stashed inside it.
Police suspect that the liquor was meant to be distributed before polling. Efforts are being made to nab the driver.
In another incident, 45 cartons of liquor, each containing 24 halves (375ml) of illicit liquor was recovered from an abandoned SUV in Uttam Nagar last night while a women, Kalawati, was caught by the police in Miyawali area for allegedly carrying 49 quarters of country-made liquor on Tuesday.
In the same area, one Dharmender was nabbed while carrying 150 quarters of country-made liquor which he bought from Haryana to sell it in Delhi.
In Uttam Nagar, a bootlegger Rukmani was apprehended carrying 32 cartons of illicit liquor yesterday. He was previously involved in four separate criminal cases.
In a similar incident, staff of West district police arrested a bootlegger and recovered 13 cartons and 105 quarters of alcohol. He was also involved in three separate cases previously.
