As many as 3,254 foreign companies were operating in India till June this year and the National Capital and Maharashtra had maximum number of such firms, Parliament was informed today.
As on June 30, 2014, a total of 1,476 foreign companies were functioning in Delhi followed by 772 such firms in Maharashtra, as per the list provided by Minister of State for Corporate Affairs Nirmala Sitharaman to the Lok Sabha.
Besides, Karnataka had 270 foreign firms, Harayana (239), Tamil Nadu (202), Andhra Pradesh (78), Uttar Pradesh (56) and West Bengal (54).

To a separate query on transfer of money by companies on account of loophole in the companies law, Sitharaman said: "No instances of any lacunae in the provisions of the Companies Act 1956/2013 has so far been brought to the notice of the Ministry of Corporate Affairs by stakeholders or the relevant agencies of the government".
