More than 3,500 people were evacuated from Porbandar district as heavy rains lashed the district for the second day while the state reviewed relief and rehabilitation measures for flood-affected people.

"Close to 3,880 people were shifted to safer places from low-lying areas after heavy rains led to water logging, along with water released from Bhadarpur-II and Ozat-II dams," Porbandar district collector M A Gandhi told PTI.

He said that a 45-year-old person had gone missing in the afternoon after he refused to pay heed to villagers' requests not to go out to the fields. Villagers have not seen him since then.

Gandhi said that 39 people were rescued by boats in the Kutiyana taluka after a heavy downpour, while two Indian Coast Guard (ICG) helicopters saved nine persons from two different areas.

Meanwhile, Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi reviewed relief and rehabilitation measures for flood-stricken people in a meeting attended by Gujarat revenue minister Anandi Patel, Gujarat energy minister Saurabh Patel, chief secretary Varesh Sinha and other officials.

"Various pro-active measures taken by the state government and district authorities have ensured that Gujarat suffered least number of casualties," a press statement issued by the state information department said.

Water storage in dams of Kutch had risen by around 23 per cent, while storage of 45 per cent of water reservoirs in Saurashtra rose by 88 per cent after fresh rains, the statement said.

Relief Commissioner P K Parmar said that close to 1.10 lakh people's temporary evacuation to safer places had saved a number of lives. The health department's 478 teams were on the field assisting the district administration, he said.

All electricity connections have been restored, the press statement said, while only 106 roads have been blocked for a temporary period.
