Over 3 lakh vehicles fined for improper parking in Delhi

Delhi Police has fined over three lakh vehicles for improper parking in the national capital, while over 80,000 vehicles were towed away till July 15 this year, the Lok Sabha was informed today.

In 2013, a total of 3,34,152 vehicles have been challaned for being wrongly parked, while 87,833 vehicles were towed away for the same offence, Minister of State for Home Affairs Mullappally Ramachandran told the Lok Sabha in a written reply to a query.

During 2012, as many as 5,33,021 vehicle owners were fined for improper parking, while 1,71,535 were towed away by cranes. In 2011, the number of challans stood at 5,18,337, while the number of vehicles towed away was 1,32,276, he said.
 

In 2010, a total of 4,87,504 vehicles were fined for improper parking, while 98,670 were towed away, Ramachandran said.

To another query, the minister said as of now, Delhi Police has no proposal for charging public "congestion fee" on roads that receive heavy volume of traffic.
