Over 3500 hospitals treating patients with Ayurveda, Unani

More than 3500 hospitals in the country are providing treatment to patients through various traditional medicinal systems, including Ayurveda, Unani and Siddha, the Rajya Sabha was informed today.

"As per information reported by the states and UT, as on April 1, 2015, the total number of AYUSH hospitals providing AYUSH medical treatment in the country is 3,598.

"Out of which 2,818 hospitals are of Ayurveda, 257 of Unani, 274 of Siddha, 7 of Yoga, 35 of Naturopathy and 207 of homoeopathy," Minister of State for AYUSH Shripad Yesso Naik said.

He said as on April 1, 2015, the total number of AYUSH dispensaries was 25,723 out of which 15,291 are of Ayurveda, 1,461 of Unani, 803 of Siddha, 185 of Yoga, 94 of Naturopathy, 7,856 of Homoeopathy and 33 of Sowa Rigpa.
 

He said vacant posts of AYUSH doctors under Central Government Health Service are filled by the government in consultation with the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC), which advertises the posts and conducts the examination.

He said the proposal for filling the posts of Medical Officers and Research Officers has been sent to the UPSC recently.

The vacancies can be filled up only after UPSC recommends the candidates and the pre-appointment formalities of those recommended are completed in consultation with the respective state authorities, he said.
