As many as 4,383 new Gram Panchayats would come into existance in Telangana on August 2, state Panchayati Raj and Rural Development Minister Jupalli Krishna Rao said today.
The new panchayats were being formed for the convenience of villagers who hitherto had to travel long distances (to the panchayat offices) for redressal of various issues, he said.
Special officers were being appointed for the villages as the tenure of rural local bodies was coming to an end, he said according to an official release.
Orders had been issued to sanction funds for the new Panchayats on the basis of the population, he said.
The state government would make efforts to conduct elections to the gram panchayats at an early date, he added.
With the addition of the rural local bodies, the number of gram panchayats in Telangana has risen to 12,751.
