Over 40000 children from more than 800 schools will participate in the 21st edition of the Salwan Marathon to be run at the Army Equestrian Centre here tomorrow.

The run this year has seen an increase in registrations of over 40 per cent from students from rural areas over the last year.

The number of special children participating in the marathon will also see an increase as over 2500 visually impaired and differently-abled children have already confirmed their participation.

Boxer Shiva Thapa, and runners Manpreet Kaur and Khushbir Kaur will be seen at the run along with volunteers, cheering for the runners.

Samrata Diwan, Spokesperson, Salwan Marathon, said, "Our biggest challenge is to ensure the safety and security of each and every child and have a fair and clean race, and we are fully geared up for that."

As part of the initiative to ensure an even playing field for all participants, the organisers have put in place stringent mechanisms to root out any possibility of doping and fudging by participating school children.
