Over 40 shops selling firecrackers have been sealed by the district administration in Ghaziabad in accordance with the Supreme Court order banning their sale in the Delhi-NCR region till November 1, an official said.

The apex court yesterday permited the sale of firecrackers only from November one, 12 days after Diwali.

Ghaziabad District Magistrate Ritu Maheshwari said licenses which were issued earlier have been suspended now and no new license would be issued.

The sub-divisional magistrates concerned and the city magistrate have sealed over 30 firecracker shops and godowns in Loni, 10 in Modi Nagar and five in the city, she said.

Strict action will be taken against any sale of firecrackers in the district, Maheshwari added.
