Over 500 pilgrims pay obeisance at Amarnath cave shrine

As many as 509 pilgrims today paid obeisance at the cave shrine of Amarnath in south Kashmir hills, an official said.

Another batch of pilgrims, meanwhile, left Jammu for the Himalayan shrine of Budha Amarnath in Poonch border district.

"Today, on the 39th day of the pilgrimage, 509 yatris paid obeisance at the cave shrine of Amarnath and cumulatively since the beginning of the pilgrimage, 2,59,551 yatris had darshan at the shrine," an official spokesman said.

The last batch of over 200 pilgrims left for Buddha Amarnath from Jammu.

The 40-day yatra began on June 29 from the twin routes and is scheduled to end on August 7, coinciding with the festival of Rakshabandhan tomorrow.
