They are drinking too much, arguing with friends or family, going off with a stranger or indulging in holiday romances, the study found.
A third of the 1,000 Britons over the age of 50 who were polled said they take more risks now than in their youth.
The study by UK-based insurer Staysure also found travelling as much as possible is a top priority for the silver set, the Daily Express reported.
"Their holidays are about visiting far-flung destinations and engaging in daring experiences to get the most out of their trips abroad," Ryan Howsam, chief executive, said.
A fifth of those questioned said they often find themselves in dangerous situations on holiday. Going on safari, trekking and visiting undeveloped regions feature highly in the plans of older holidaymakers.
Many admitted not locking away valuables, eating dodgy food and failing to get proper insurance cover.
Other regrets include buying a timeshare and trying to sustain holiday romances once home.
