Over 6,000 government employees, including more than 100 officers, retired here on a single day today.

The superannuated employees included Directors of Higher and Primary Education, Director of Health, over two dozen Joint Directors of various departments and three dozen employees of state secretariat.

Maximum number of about 2,500 employees, including a dozen officers, and about 600 headmasters retired from Education department while other departments with larger number of superannuating employees are Public Works, Irrigation and Public Health, and Police.

The state government had granted one year extension to employees in May 2014 and raised the retirement limit from 58 to 59 years. As a consequence, no retirement took place during past ten months.

However, the government decided to scrap extensions of the employees and decided to retire all the employees who have completed 58 years on March 31.

However, the government granted fifteen days extension to those employees who could not get promotions due to extension given to their seniors and directed the concerned officers to ensure that the letters of promotion of these employees are issued before April 16, the extended date for their retirement.
