Over 600 runners participate in half-marathon organised by BSF

Over 600 people of all age groups participated today in a half-marathon organised by the BSF here in the memory of those killed in the line of duty.

Besides the main event at the Paloura camp here, races were also held at Miran Sahib and Akhnoor in Jammu, Samba district and Sunderbani in Rajouri district, a BSF spokesman said.

"There were two categories: half-marathon (21 km) for both men and women and a five-kilometer run only for women. While the men's category was dominated by runners from the Dogra Regiment, who bagged all the five prizes on offer, girls of Government College, Akhnoor, stole the show in the women category," he said.
 

Sepoy Jagdish Kumar and Reeta won the race in the men's and women's category respectively. Both were awarded cash prize of Rs 25,000 each.

While the cash prize for first runners-up was Rs 20,000, the second runners-up and third runners-up got Rs 10,000 and Rs 5,000 respectively.

The five-km run, only for women, was won by Amreen Fatima followed by runner-up Bhawani Devi, Veena Devi, Shivani Charak and Ashma.

All the winners were presented certificates and the top three were awarded trophies also, the spokesman said.
