The Ministry of Environment and Forests (MoEF) today sensitised its staff on various aspects of digital payment mode in order to go cashless, a move which comes after Prime Minister Narendra Modi directed all ministries to switch to online transactions.

"More than 700 employees learnt how to use e-wallet and swipe cards. NITI Aayog presentation sensitises employees to new-age transactions," Environment Minister Anil Madhav Dave later tweeted.

Over 700 staff members in the Ministry was sensitised by officials. A presentation was also given during the meeting, sources said.

"The MoEFCC sensitised its staff on digital payments regarding MoEF My Mobile, My Bank, My Wallet," the Environment Ministry also tweeted.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is learnt to have directed all ministries and departments to switch to online transactions or cheque mode and at the same time ensure downstream payments, including by contractors to labourers, go cashless too.

The decision in this regard, sources said, was taken at the Cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently.

The directive to government ministries on going cashless is seen as a move to curb corruption and promote ease of doing business.
