Over 8,000 medical shops found selling sub-standard drugs: Raj

The State Drug Control Department has found that 90 drug manufacturing firms and over 8,000 medical shops in the state were manufacturing and selling sub-standard drugs between 2014 and 2016, the Rajasthan government said today.

Replying to a query by Congress MLA Govind Singh Dotasara in the Assembly here, state health minister Kali Charan Saraf said the drug control department conducted 36,109 inspections between 2014 and 2016, in which 8,825 medical shops and 90 companies were found involved in irregularities.

The government has taken action against 7,499 erring medical shops and drug manufacturing firms, the minister said.

Saraf said one post of drug controller, 14 posts of assistant drug controller and 50 posts drug control officers are lying vacant in the state drug control department.
