Unclaimed cash totalling Rs 3.47 crore kept in seven bags was seized by an election flying squad from a state-owned transport corporation bus at Royappan Patti in the district Thursday, an official said.

The bus crew told the squad that a transport employee Selvaraj had placed the bags in the bus and that they knew nothing further, the official said.

A bank passbook and an ID card in the name of Ramesh from Tiruvannamalai were also found in one of the bags.

Income tax officials and flying squad have detained Selvaraj for interrogation.

On Wednesday, unaccounted money totalling Rs 2.10 crore was seized from the car of a VCK functionary at a toll gate near Perambalur, police had said.

A police team initially found nothing in the car but when they thoroughly checked it they found currency notes stacked in seats and concealed in door panels.
