The overall law and order situation in Himachal Pradesh is "satisfactory" but there is scope for further improvements, Director General of Police Sanjay Kumar said today.

He called upon the police officers to take effective steps in prevention, detection and investigation of crime and focus on qualitative policing and service delivery.

Reviewing the crime situation in the state from January 1 to December 31, 2016, the DGP said though the overall law and order situation is "satisfactory", there is scope for further improvement in all categories especially in tackling heinous crimes, drug abuse and trafficking.

"The statewide campaign to make Himachal Pradesh drug free had yielded results. The campaign has to be sustained and intensified," he said.

He asked the police officers to be more sensitive in dealing with drug related cases and directed them to deal with complaints in a prompt and transparent manner to win the trust of the people.
