The Overseas Indian Affairs ministry has initiated the process of signing agreements on labour and safety of Indian immigrants with Jordan and Libya.

"The ministry has signed bilateral agreements and MoUs on labour with Qatar, UAE, Kuwait, Oman, Malaysia and Bahrain. The ministry has initiated the process of negotiating similar memoranda with Jordan and Libya," Overseas Indian Affairs minister Vayalar Ravi informed the Lok Sabha today.

He said that an agreement on labour cooperation for Domestic Service Workers Recruitment between India and Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has also been signed.

Ravi said the Joint Working Groups (JWGs) consisting of members from both the countries have been constituted for implementing the MoUs.

The JWG deals with issues like minimum wages, documentation, redressal of labour dispute, working conditions, sharing of experience in manpower deployment, exchange of information on related legislative and administrative measures and labour market information, he told the House.

"The agreement or MoU also provide a mutually agreed framework to the Indian Missions for taking up issues with the host country on a continuous basis," Ravi said.
