Paddy growers have so far been paid Rs 2,000 crore for their crop in Punjab with paddy procurement in the state reaching 40 lakh tonnes in the ongoing kharif marketing season.
Out of total purchase, 38.84 lakh tonne was procured by government owned agencies while rest was purchased by private millers, said an official spokesman here.
Among government agencies, Pungrain bought 11.32 lakh tonne while Markfed, Punsup, PSWC and Punjab Agro purchased 9.35 lakh tonne, 8.60 lakh tonne, 3.85 lakh tonnes and 4.08 lakh tonnes, respectively.
Central procurement agency FCI has been able to procure 1.61 lakh tonne which is 2.9 per cent of total purchase.
