Paddy procurement to start from Nov 1 in Odisha

Odisha government has set a target of procuring 53 lakh quintals of rice this year and will start it for the kharif season from November one, officials said.

Chief Secretray A P Padhi said 44 lakh quintals of paddy will be collected in kharif marketing season while 9 lakh quintals will be collected in Rabi season.

The purchase outlets will be opened across the state by November and paddy procurement would continue till April, 2018, he said.

Ten lakh farmers have so far been registered with Odisha State Civil Supplies Corporation to sell their paddy. Money will be directly transferred to their bank accounts from the government agency, Padhi said adding that share cultivators have also this time registered their names with the department.
 

While the farmers can avail Rs 1550 per quintal of common variety paddy, the price of Grade-A paddy will be Rs 1590 per quintal as per the minimum support price (MSP) fixed by the central govenrment.

Paddy procurement will start from Kalahandi district on November one and will be done in Bargarh on November 7, they said.
